CONTEST AND SUBMISSION RULES: SONG CONTEST SUBMISSIONS ARE UPLOADED TO OUR WEBSITE (MP3 FILES ONLY) AND YOU PAY FOR YOUR ENTRIES ONLINE. Click here to enter ASGI's 2024 Song Contest! Submission Categories: 1. Singer/Songwriter – NOTE: The person singing the song must be the songwriter, or one of the co-writers. 2. Bare Bones – NOTE: There can only be one vocal and one instrument on these submissions. Submitted songs featuring more than one vocal and one instrument will be disqualified in this category. Songs that have been commercially released are also eligible. 3. Country - Self explanatory 4. Love Songs – NOTE: Can be any genre type, provided the lyrical subject matter is about love. Could be falling in or out of love, unrequited love, familial love, spiritual love or any other type of “love” song. It’s all about the love! 5. Pop – NOTE: Pop is a broadly defined genre. Many songs potentially classify as “pop” songs, the defining trait being potential commercial appeal, more so than musical style, 6. Rock – NOTE: Rock, like Pop, is a broadly defined genre. Many songs potentially classify as “rock” songs from classic rock to hard rock and many points in between. 7. Blues – NOTE: Blues is often a lamentation characterized by 12-bar phrases, 3-line stanzas in which the words of the second line often repeat those of the first, which opens this category up to a potentially eclectic group of submissions. 8. Jazz – NOTE: Jazz and blues are closely related, and jazz is an American music developed especially from ragtime and blues, and characterized by varying degrees of improvisation in the melody. 9. Folk/Americana -- Consider the traditions of “folk” music, including "Americana" as a vehicle for acoustic storytelling, which sometimes, though not necessarily always, will have a protest and/or social justice lyrical theme. 10. Inspirational – NOTE: The lyrics must in some way be uplifting. It may be gospel or it may be a love song or anything in between. 11. Lyrics Only – Self explanatory. 12. Novelty Songs - Self explanatory SONG CONTEST ENTRY FEES: 1. ALL SONG ENTRIES ARE $15 EACH 2. Songs entered in multiple categories will be charged $15 for each category 3. Click here to enter ASGI's 2024 Song Contest! JUDGING GUIDELINES AND DISCLAIMERS: 1. Production quality will NOT be considered when judging songs. This is a contest about songwriting, not engineering skills: However, do your best in presenting your songs well, even if it is a simple guitar-vocal track. 2. A judging committee consisting of music industry professionals, including songwriters, publishers, producers and radio personalities, among others, as well as the ASGI Executive Board, will participate in judging the songs submitted to the contest. 3. Judges will use four criteria: melody, lyrics, originality and form. 4. The decisions of the judging committee are final.

3/29/23 - Greetings Songwriters!
The last few years have been hard for folks dealing with the uncertainty of the pandemic which hit right after our symposium in January of 2020. At that time we made the decision to suspend taking new memberships so as not to put any financial strain on someone. We also suspended in person meetings and events. We did however continue to serve the songwriting community using ZOOM. We had as many as 4 online events a week with Song Doctor sessions and song circles. We also did online workshops and our online Symposium that we call the Zoomposium! We actually grew our community because with Zoom we were not limited to just the Austin area. We have been serving songwriters from different parts of the USA and different countries. Because we are serving songwriters internationally we have a name change. We are now Austin Songwriters Group International, and have added chapters to make in person events easier for those of you that live in different areas. We will keep you posted as we add new chapters.
During this time we have tried to rethink and restructure to better serve our community in this ever changing world. We have created a new website that we think will be easier to navigate. We have created new activities for members like a pitch to publisher once a month for members that will be hosted on Zoom. We are continuing our Song Doctor sessions on Zoom twice a week for your song evaluations. We are scheduling both online and in person workshops, another Zoomposium in August and our annual Symposium in February of 2024. We have also created a Members Only page where we will grow a library for you to gather information and music tools to continue to grow as an artist. CHECK OUT THE MEMBERSHIP PAGE FOR A LIST OF OUR MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS.
We hope to see you at the New World Deli the second Sunday and third Wednesday of every month, or if it is more convenient for you, we will see you at our online events like the twice a week Song Doctor sessions for song evaluations. You can check out our upcoming events on the CALENDAR.
Please check out the website and sign up for the Newsletter (as we are changing email servers) and PLEASE BECOME A CURRENT MEMBER TO SUPPORT OUR EFFORTS.
REMEMBER WE ARE SONGWRITERS SERVING SONGWRITERS!!W re each other's greatest asset!
